LINER NOTES

EMILY:  This first song on the new Ethel Cain album and introduction of the character Janie to the preacher’s daughter cinematic universe got me thinking about themes of sibling relationships (blood or not blood) explored in music. This week I went down a hole of some of these songs that are meaningful to me.

“Once I thought the chance to make you laugh was all I ever wanted” (“THE PLAGUES”)

MIKE: There is no escape from the Tool. There is nothing but tool and tool related music products (“GREEN VALLEY”)

Join Us. (“THE PACKAGE”)

This song has no right being this good (“WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD)”

GIA: Forgot about this one, rediscovered while listening to old cds. (“THE COMEBACK”)

SIMON: woodman’s

DANIEL: I was initially going to go all jazz (or jazz-ish) this week, but I have the luxury of making the playlist myself, so I often switch up my songs to fit the vibe. The change here was submitting Kamelot, which I have been listening to a lot lately—mostly because I felt like it fit in with the theatrical vibe of Emily’s song from the Prince of Egypt. Emily makes fun of me for listening to this type of music yet also hating showtunes. I do think Roy Khan would fit in easily on Broadway, but they need more double bass and guitar solos if I’m going to show up. I need somebody to make a show like that to be my gateway, just like I think The Black Halo could be a good gateway album for someone trying to get into heavier music.
